Spring Liver Cleanse

Now that winter is all but over, it's time to help your liver with some cleansing. Wild leeks and young dandelion greens are superb foods for the liver, as are beets, lemon, cabbage, kale, broccoli, onions, garlic, ginger, turmeric and olive oil. The following recipe can be used as a 3-10 day liver flush, taken every morning. Eat plentiful fruits and vegetables for the remainder of the day, and minimize meat, dairy and fatty foods. A liver flush stimulates the liver to eliminate toxins and cholesterol, increases bile flow, and moves liver blood.
1) Mix together freshly squeezed lemon juice to make one cup of liquid. Water it down to taste with filtered water if desired.
2) Add 1-2 cloves of fresh garlic plus 2 tsp of fresh ginger or grated ginger. Both of these protect the liver.
3) Mix in 1 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil from a metal or opaque glass container and blend the mixture together. Olive oil stimulates bile flow, which helps to remove toxins in the liver.
4) Add a pinch of cayenne, 2 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tbsp organic soy protein powder. Mix it up. These assist liver detoxification pathways.
5) Drink in the morning, waiting one hour before eating. Keep your diet simple the rest of the day, either eating mainly fresh fruits and vegetables or mung beans and rice cooked with vegetables.
